What is a Pollinator Pathway?

Begun in Connecticut, the Pollinator Pathway Movement (https://www.pollinator-pathway.org/) has spread to over 20 states, with three branches now in Ohio—including us, the North Central Ohio Pollinator Pathway, covering Delaware, Marion and Morrow Counties. The goal is to increase the use of native plants in as many locations as possible, from our lawns and backyards to churches, businesses, schools and other larger landowners, creating spaces where pollinators can flock, feed, travel and thrive, in the face of species demise, harmful chemical fertilizers and habitat loss.

Our vision can be seen below, with each circle interlocking with the other, to shape pollinator pathways and conservation corridors across Delaware County and beyond:

Revisualizing Delaware County

Delaware County offers us an incredible string of pearls that may easily be overlooked… from Stratford Ecological Center to parkland managed by Preservation Parks (Deer Haven, Hogback, Shale Hollow, Blues Creek…) and Metro Parks (High Banks), to Camp Lazarus, the Olentangy and Scioto Rivers, Big Walnut and Alum Creeks, Delaware State Park and Wildlife Area, Hoover, Alum Creek, and O’Shaughnessy Reservoirs, new prairies at Delco Water, and numerous headwater streams and strands of farmland.

What can we do to re-see (and re-seed) what connects us to the land here? From all our collective efforts, as individuals, agencies, companies, institutions, nature centers, schools, along with city and county governments- how might we work together to revisualize and revitalize land in Delaware County?

Three blue circles each with a snippet of text describing the three things: Pollinator Pathways, Conservation Corridors, and Community Engagement.
